  9.   The facts are that almost everyone's computer system 
  10. has different combinations of processors, operating systems, 
  11. memory managers, sound cards. 
  12.   
  13.   Testing HYPERCYCLES on all these possible setups is nearly 
  14. impossible, especially for a small game development company 
  15. like Aclypse.
  16.  
  17.   Is your computer fast enough? It should be a 486 33MHz or 
  18. faster system. Do to the intense fast action and to do 
  19. justice to this game try to play it on 486 66MHz or better.
  20. And by all means with a sound card, that's half the 
  21. experience right there!

  23.   This file describes information gathered for running this
  24. version of HYPERCYCLES(tm) 1.0.  If you have problems that
  25. are not answered here, there are a number of avenues to 
  26. turn to.

  51.  HYPERCYCLES was developed on a 486DX-4 100MHz 
  52.  
  53.  
  54. Most problems people have running PC games is due to problems 
  55. with the software utilizing the the sound card. If you experience
  56. problems running HYPERCYCLES(tm), run HCSETUP and:
  57.  
  58.         First turn off the music by selecting NONE for MUSIC CARD. 
  59.         If it runs ok after that check the third Q&A for further
  60.         assistance.
  61.         
  62.         If that does not solve the problem, select NONE for 
  63.         SOUND FX Card. If that seems to stop the problem, then
  64.         you have either incorrect dma or IRQ settings or conflict.

  74. You are experiencing a DMA conflict. Change the DMA channel 
  75. of the sound card or offending device. HYPERCYCLES(tm) does 
  76. not use IRQ #'s above 7.

  81. Run HYPERCYCLES(tm) directly from the DOS prompt not from
  82. inside Windows 3.x.

  84. You need to turn "Hidden Refresh" off in your CMOS Advanced 
  85. Chipset settings. If you're using RAMBIOS.SYS, you must 
  86. remove it from your CONFIG.SYS. Make sure you also turn off 
  87. any Hardware Video Shadowing (also found in CMOS settings.)

  94. Try turning the music off; Go into HCSETUP and select NONE for
  95. MUSIC Card Selection. Leave SOUND FX Card as is, just turn
  96. music off by selecting NONE for MUSIC Card type. If that stops 
  97. the lock-up, try turning MUSIC back on and some of the following
  98. suggestions:

  100. Some memory managers don't play well with others. Create alternate 
  101. system files (AUTOEXEC.BAT & CONFIG.SYS) that uses DOS's HIMEM.SYS
  102. and remove all references to the memory manager,
  103.  
  104. Or try disabling your memory manager and booting up your system. 
  105. HYPERCYCLES(tm) runs in protected mode and does not need a 
  106. memory manager to use all your memory. 
  107.  
  108. QEMM Version 7.5 should work fine under most system configurations.
  109.  
  110. QEMM version 7.0 has been known cause havoc with games that 
  111. use DMA digital sound effects. The newer version 7.5 fixes
  112. this problem. Try booting without QEMM but be sure to run
  113. any special sound card drivers that are needed.
  114.  
  115. Lantastic 6.0 users have reported problems especially if
  116. the system's memory manager has not been 'optimized for
  117. a while. Try booting the system without the LAN and it
  118. should solve any problems. Seems as if Lantastic 6.0
  119. conflicts with music card drviers.
  120.  
  121. Some systems have a option in the CMOS setup for switching
  122. the speed of the PC from the keyboard. This is the 
  123. Turbo Switch option.

  136. HYPERCYCLES(tm) was developed using a 486DX-4 100MHz system
  137. running DOS 6.22, QEMM 7.5, 8MB RAM , and a Creative Labs SB16 
  138. Sound Card.

  152. Note: HYPERCYCLES(tm) only supports IRQ numbers 7 or below. 
  153. Be sure you set your sound card to an IRQ number which
  154. is 7 or below. Refer to your sound card manual for details
  155. on setting your IRQ number.

  157. Note: This is particularly important for Gravis Ultra Sound 
  158. users because the standard default for the GUS card is 11.

  163. HYPERCYCLES(tm) automatically adjusts screen resolution and
  164. overall speed to the capabilities of your computer.

  166. This can be manually overridden.

  168.         Use the /Z# command parameter. The # can be from 1 to 6,
  169.         were 1 is for slower computers and 6 is for faster systems.

  171.         Use the /D (debug) parameter first to see what HYPERCYCLES(tm)
  172.         is the normal Speed Index for your system.
  173.         
  174.         Use the /S (skip memory test) parameter will allow you to 
  175.         override and skip the memory test of HYPERCYCLES(tm).

  178. Another solution is to get a faster computer. At least a 
  179. 66MHz or 100MHz 486 or a PENTIUM class machine.

  184. HYPERCYCLES(tm) does not support mouse input. The game play
  185. is running at such a fast pace, that mouse input does not
  186. react fast enough to keep you out of the walls.

  191. You don't have enough free RAM to run HYPERCYCLES(tm).  You 
  192. need at least 1.2MB of free RAM.

  194. If you have 2MB or more of memory installed in your system
  195. try the following:

  197. Put 'REM ' in front of the SMARTDRV line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
  198. This will work in most cases. Leave SMARTDRV in if you have enough
  199. memory as it will speed disk access.

  201. If you have DOS 6 or later, boot your system and press the F5 
  202. key as the "Starting MS-DOS..." message appears.

  204. If you have DOS 5.0 or earlier, you must create a boot disk.
